Spain is made up of many regions but the main three areas visited by holidaymakers are the Balearic isles, the Canary isles and the ever popular Spanish Costa's. The Balearic Islands are an archipelago in the western Mediterranean Sea, near the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula. They form an autonomous community and a province of Spain, of which the capital city is Palma de Mallorca. Majorca is the largest - and most popular of the islands, followed by Menorca and Ibiza. The Canary isles sit just over 70 miles west of the north African coast and offer visitors year-round sunshine with average temperatures in the low to mid twenty's every month of the year. The four main islands in order of size are Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.  The Spanish Costa's have been a favourite holiday destination with British families since the start of the package holiday boom in the 1960's. Its attraction is the short flight time from the UK, its climate and its choice of food. Benidorm in the Costa Blanca is still the Brits favourite with the Costa del Sol, the Costa Brava and the Costa Dorada following in close order. The more upmarket Costa Almeria is where you can still experience the real Spain but flights from the UK are limited.
